Collaborative research efforts focused on Gap Analysis and Fit-for-purpose Models

Working groups research

Gap Analysis

Start Date: August 1st, 2025

The research objectives of the Gap Analysis working group are to (1) develop a publicly available geospatial tool that allows users to visualize current and historical soil carbon sampling efforts, and (2) recommend methodologies for soil carbon measurement and management data collection.

Together, these efforts aim to advance long-term research capacity for soil carbon measurement and monitoring in grazing systems, support development of regional soil carbon baselines for the Northeastern U.S., and inform process-based models that predict the impacts of grazing management practices on soil carbon stocks.

Fit-for-purpose Models

Start Date: August 1st, 2025

The Fit-for-Purpose Models working group evaluates process-based models that link on-farm management practices to soil outcomes relevant to multiple actors across the Northeast agricultural landscape. This work involves assessing existing models for their applicability to Northeast grazing systems and identifying critical gaps between current modeling capabilities and regional research needs.
